Is Kombucha Gluten Free?

We’ve been brewing kombucha since the good ol’ days of 2012, when you couldn’t turn on the radio without hearing Gangnam Style, and the wild decade-or-so of The Avengers hype was only just kicking off.

Wild that we’ve come so far… isn’t it?

Anywhoo! It’s safe to say we’ve been at this kombucha brewing biz for quite some time now, so we’re pretty darn familiar with all the ins and outs of booch and what kinds of people can safely sip away!

We’ve already answered the age-old question of whether kombucha is safe to drink during pregnancy. We’ve talked about keto, and whether booch + keto = happily ever after.

But we haven’t spoken much about whether kombucha is gluten-free.

Not-so-spoiler alert: that’s what we’re gonna be doing now. Let’s dive in.

What is kombucha?

In a nutshell, kombucha (often lovingly called “booch”) is fermented tea. The traditional method of making kombucha – which we follow at Remedy – involves a natural fermentation of sweet tea with a live culture. The live culture is known as a SCOBY, which stands for Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast.

The result is a sparkling drink with sweet and sour flavours that contains the goodness of live cultures, tea polyphenols and organic acids. Better yet, it’s downright delicious! You can even brew your own booch at home.

Is kombucha gluten-free?

Yes.

Ok, solved! Any other questions?

Just kidding! It’s not quite that simple. Remedy Kombucha is gluten-free, but we can’t speak for other kombucha brands.

Kombucha is one of those bevs that can be made a couple of different ways with a bucketload of different ingredients (mainly colours, flavours, sweeteners, etc).

But rest assured, Remedy Kombucha is gluten-free.

Where can you buy kombucha?

Now that you know Remedy Kombucha is A-OK for our gluten-free pals, you can snag a bottle or can from your local Woolworths, Coles or independent supermarket, and you can stock up by the case at remedydrinks.com.
